About Us
Made with Mud and Love is the creative collaboration between Justine and Neg, two passionate potters who met in an unexpected way. Their journey into pottery began in Ventura, California, when they both sought out something new and creative. Justine, who never imagined she'd fall in love with pottery, was encouraged by her boss to take a class, even going so far as to look up the schedule for her. Neg, on the other hand, had been curious about pottery her whole life. Her mom had taken a class when Neg was six, and ever since, she had wondered what it was all about. As fate would have it, she drove past the same studio where Justine had signed up for her first lesson.
The two became classmates in a six-week pottery course, and before they knew it, they were hooked. They promised each other they would return in three months to take the "Wheel Two" class, neither thinking the other would follow through. But they both did! Justine dove in headfirst, setting up a home studio and dedicating herself to pottery with full heart. Neg, ever the procrastinator, eventually followed suit and set up her own space to create.
Balancing full-time corporate jobs with their pottery passion, both Justine and Neg are fortunate enough to work from home, which allows them to fit in their wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing around busy schedules. Over time, their work has inspired many others, which led them to join forces and create Made with Mud and Love.
What started as a chance meeting in a pottery class has grown into a shared mission to spread the joy of pottery, creativity, and handmade art. Each piece they create is crafted with care, and infused with the love and connection that first brought them together.
Made with Mud and Love isn’t just about pottery—it’s about embracing life’s messy, beautiful moments, and finding joy in the process of creation.
Neg
Meet Neg, a proud UK national whose journey brought her across the Atlantic to the United States. Originally moving for work, Neg found herself not only building a career but also discovering a new chapter of her personal life when she fell in love and married an American. Now, she navigates life as a devoted spouse and dedicated professional in corporate America, balancing the demands of a full-time job with her commitment to her family and personal growth.
During the pandemic, Neg and her family decided to trade the fast pace of city life for the coastal charm of Ventura. Drawn by the promise of a more relaxed and fulfilling lifestyle, they saw this as an opportunity to start fresh, focus on well-being, and prioritize the things that truly matter. While leaving behind her cherished friends and family in England was a bittersweet challenge, it also reinforced her desire to build meaningful connections in her new community.
Neg is passionate about creating a sense of belonging—not just for herself, but for those around her. Whether it’s fostering relationships, finding joy in the little moments, or embracing the unique blend of cultures in her life, she strives to bring warmth, openness, and positivity to every interaction. For Neg, Ventura isn’t just a place to live; it’s a place to grow, thrive, and build a new kind of home filled with friendship, love, and possibility.
Justine
Hi, I’m a Ventura local, surfer, and mom to two spirited girls. I’ve always been a bit of a dabbler, exploring one hobby after another in search of fulfillment. My journey with pottery began as a way to break free from life’s routine—a creative escape where I could find a moment of peace.
What started as an occasional pastime has transformed into a passion. Each piece I craft is a reflection of that evolution—delicate, purposeful, and filled with the love I pour into this art form. I hope my work brings as much joy to your life as it has brought to mine.
